2011年7月13日-26日，为期两周的CTFS & CforBio样地系统Workshop在长白山森林生态系统定位研究站举办。本Workshop由美国Smithsonian研究所热带森林研究中心(CTFS)与中国科学院生物多样性委员会森林生物多样性监测网络(CForBio)联合主办，由我所天然林保育组(天然林生态)与长白山森林生态系统定位研究站承办。共有来自中国大陆、台湾地区、美国、英国、意大利、印度、斯里兰卡、泰国、菲律宾、巴西、厄瓜多尔、巴拿马、喀麦隆、刚果等16个国家和地区60多人参加。本次Workshop是中美自然科学基金委联合资助交流项目“Diversity and Forest Change: Characterizing functional, phylogenetic and genetic contributions to diversity gradients and dynamics in tree communities”一系列五次Workshop中的第一次，下一次将于2012年夏天在美国举办。

此次Workshop共分6个工作小组，主题分别为：“Forest biomass and carbon budgets”，“Reproductive and seedling demography”，“Species traits”，“Long-term growth and mortality changes”，“Density-dependence and spatial patterns”，以及“DNA barcodes, ecological forensics, and community phylogenies”。与会人员以全球各个大样地的监测数据为基础，对当今生态学的热点问题开展了深入广泛的讨论，并合作撰写或修改论文。

Workshop期间，John Kress教授、Richard Condit博士、Sean McMahon博士、Helene Muller-Landau博士、Liza Comita博士、Ewango Corneille博士等围绕DNA barcodes在群落系统发育研究中的应用、数据管理、森林动态、森林生物量、密度制约、非洲刚果地区藤本植物多样性等内容做了主题报告。

Workshop期间，中外专家由郝占庆研究员陪同考察参观了我组于2004年建立的25公顷阔叶红松林大样地。我组王淼，王绪高，叶吉，原作强，白雪娇，赵玉强，邢丁亮，张昭晨，匡旭，宋侯娟等参加本次Workshop。Workshop结束后，以“Climate Change and Forest Biodiversity Conservation”为主题的国际研讨会于7月27日-28日在中国科学院植物研究所召开。
